  • Tyson Miller

    Founder/Director Tyson is a social entrepreneur and leader in the environmental movement who has been developing new organizations and initiatives since 1993. After graduating from UCLA’s Environmental Studies program, he has focused his efforts on increasing public awareness, spreading success models, and catalyzing sustainability in markets. Since that time, he has completed a documentary, founded or co-founded multiple organizations and initiatives which are serving to advance systemic change (SEE Innovation, Green Press Initiative, Dream of a Nation, Recycled Products Cooperative). He and/or his programs have received awards from the U.S. EPA, California Governor's Office and Sierra Club, and have been featured on NPR, ABC news, BBC Radio, the New York Times, and a variety of other media outlets. Tyson also earned a California teaching credential.

  • Shannon Binns

    Program Manager, Green Press Initiative and Project for Improved Environmental Coverage Shannon joined SEE Innovation in October of 2007 and is involved in managing climate policy and newspaper sector work and the Project for Improved Environmental Coverage.. Shannon brings a unique perspective having worked for a number of private and nonprofit organizations. Most recently, he supported conservation goals at The Nature Conservancy as part of a team that worked with Congress to develop science-based climate change legislation. He has also served as an agroforestry extension agent with the Peace Corps in Senegal, a communications manager for North Andaman Tsunami Relief in Thailand, and an English teacher in Prague. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University and a Master of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy from Columbia University.

  • Peter Carpenter

    Education Resource Coordinator, Dream of a Nation Peter is a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina Asheville, where he received a BA in History and a North Carolina high school social studies teaching license. Before joining the Dream of a Nation team in September 2011, he worked as an environmental educator teaching, exploring and learning everything he could about his home in the mountains of western North Carolina. Peter is very excited to be working on a project that inspires change and challenges students to take action in their communities. Although not in the classroom, Peter still feels that he can make positive change in education by making Dream of a Nation an accessible easy-to-use teaching resource.

  • Gretel Hakanson

    Project Manager / Editor, Dream of a Nation Gretel joined the Dream of a Nation editorial team in February of 2010. Prior to that she served as an in house editor for nine books on the topics of sustainability and green building. She also worked as an editorial freelancer for five years for various publications after working in the trenches at Amazon.com as web developer for three years. She graduated from Indiana University with a B.A. in Journalism and now lives in Tucson Arizona in a net-zero electricity historic home.

  • Erin Johnson

    Development Associate, Erin is a development professional who works part-time for SEE Innovation to draw in support from foundations, businesses, and individuals. She is a strong advocate for sustainable agriculture and operates a large CSA program in Maryland (visit sandyspringcsa.com for more information) She also works for clients who are committed to watershed protection. Prior to development work, Erin engaged in publisher and supply chain outreach for the Green Press Initiative program.

  • Allen Law

    Lead Researcher, Dream of a Nation Allen graduated from Allegheny College in the Spring of 2011 and is currently studying law at the Ohio State University. While at Allegheny College, Allen worked on a broad range of social justice and environmental initiatives — from teaching conflict resolution skills to orphans in the Balkans to convincing local store owners to carry Fair Trade and “Made in the USA” products — and he is remaining committed to helping out the global community while in law school.

  • Kathie Miller

    Research and Outreach Coordinator Kathie graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A in English Literature, and earned an MA from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. She is involved in a range of program areas related to Dream of a Nation. As a research associate, she is screening prospective funders for Dream’s various components. She is also actively involved in national outreach to promote the materials via youth leadership, arts, education, and other networks.

  • Todd Pollak

    Program Manager, Green Press Initiative Todd graduated from the University of Michigan's Program in the Environment where he focused largely on climate change, and techniques businesses can employ to minimize environmental impacts. Prior to working for the Green Press Initiative, Todd taught and coordinated environmental education programs at the Leslie Science and Nature Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Todd has also completed internships with several environmental non-profit organizations, including INFORM, Inc. which aims to identify and promote more sustainable business practices.

  • Tom Pope

    Communication Advisor Tom is a creative advertising executive and copywriter from Los Angeles who works on high profile marketing campaigns for movies, tv shows, sporting goods, food and beverages, and fashion. He teaches creative writing at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and has edited several books. His first novel, Tilting In Mid-Ocean, was published last year, a metaphysical adventure exploring the nature of reality.

  • Kelly Spitzner

    Communications Coordinator, Green Press Initiative, Associate Director / Designer, Dream of a Nation After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Psychology and Art, Kelly got her first taste of the exciting world of publishing at a small company creating fresh resources for kids, teachers and families—positive hip hop anyone? Before joining the SEE Innovation team, Kelly worked on the 2008 Presidential Election, which brought her all over of the country, educating and organizing voters around environmental and social issues. Kelly is the designer for Dream of a Nation and is working to promote and expand the project. She also works to increase program visibility for Green Press Initiative.

  • Lauren Tennant

    Web and Outreach Coordinator, Dream of a Nation Lauren is a recent graduate of Allegheny College where she majored in English and minored in Communication Arts and Political Science. At Allegheny she completed a service internship through the Bonner program, an Americorps affiliate, designing and implementing an after school cultural-arts program for at-risk youth. She is inspired everyday with her work for Dream of a Nation– researching the millions of Americans who are constantly striving to positively impact the world around them. She currently assists the project’s web-content development and lives in Columbus, Ohio.
