Previous and
Supportive Work
SEE
Innovation or its leadership have been developing or supporting
award-winning public education and market transformation work since 1992.
Listed below is a summary of previous projects developed or supported. |
Generation Earth
Generation Earth was one of SEE
Innovation’s first projects and was centered around spreading
success models in environmental education. It was built on the
premise
that success
models in environmental education programs could serve to motivate
other schools to develop their own programs. Between 1992-94, staff
traveled over 5,000 miles around the U.S. documenting innovative
environmental education programs in secondary schools. As a result,
the documentary film and a curriculum, Generation Earth, was
completed. It received four stars from the National Science Teachers
Association, and informed the development of Los Angeles County’s
secondary education program called Generation Earth which was named
after the documentary. Due to effective efforts to teach workshops
and put the resources in the right hands, the film and curriculum
has been seen by over one million students throughout the U.S. and
has inspired the development of many new environmental education
programs. |

“The video is motivational and informative as it captures students
and teachers engaged in a diverse range of environmental projects.”
Gerald Lieberman, Ph.D., Director State Education and Environment
Roundtable
“Generation
Earth raises the standards of teachers for what good environmental
education can include.”

Recycled Products Cooperative
The
Director of SEE Innovation founded the Recycled Products Cooperative
(RPC) in 1997 and directed it until 2003. The RPC started with a
$5,000 grant as a San Diego based purchasing cooperative for
recycled paper and grew to be national in scope and awarded by the
U.S. EPA for innovation. As a program, the RPC pools purchasing
volume together for recycled paper and products as a strategy to
reduce costs. The RPC also builds market awareness through education
and has now converted over 700 institutions to using recycled paper
and products. It has since been spun off as a non-profit effort and
is now a private LLC.

Environmental Paper Network
The
Environmental Paper Network (EPN) is an organization that is
dedicated to transforming the impacts of the pulp and paper
industry. It was co-founded by the Green Press Initiative and eight
other organizations in 2002 and is now an international network of
over 100 organizations working to reduce the industry’s impacts on
climate, forests, and people. As a successful capacity building
effort, the EPN has been a model for other markets-organizations
looking to unify their voice and maximize efficacy. Staff from SEE
Innovation wrote the first grants to establish the EPN and have
chaired the oversight, fundraising, and recycled fiber committees
since that time.
